Yes, it’s time.
Time for the three-time champion Albany Patroons to return to the Washington Avenue Armory for their 2025 TBL basketball schedule.
So, Pats fans, let’s go over who the Patroons will play this year, and who they WON’T play this year.
Let’s start with the “won’t” section. For the first time since Albany’s 2022 campaign, the Patroons are not scheduled for any interleague games with the Basketball Super League this year, so no visits from the London Lightning or the Newfoundland Rogues or any of those other squads.
The Patroons also WON’T face some of their other rivals from last year – the Jamestown (N.Y.) Jackals have relocated to the Basketball Super League; while the Frederick (Maryland) Flying Cows are playing in a different TBL division. In fact, the only two teams Albany faced last year that are on the Patroons’ 2025 schedule are the Reading Rebels and the Connecticut Crusaders.
However, the Patroons will face three new expansion franchises from Canada this season; Albany will host the Halifax (N.S.) Hoopers on the Pats’ home opener on February 28; they’ll also host the Port City Power from Saint John, New Brunswick on May 3, and the Tri-City Tide (Moncton, Dieppe and Riverview, N.B.) on April 5. Other new teams on the Patroons’ schedule will include the Rochester Kingz (yes, with a Z), a road game against the Jersey Shore Breeze (no word on whether Snooki was signed as point guard), and a four-game home-and-away series with the New York Phoenix.
Oh, and if you’re wondering … the New York Phoenix play their home games in Schenectady.
In other words, you could start at the Washington Avenue Armory, get in your car, drive up Central Avenue, pass the car dealerships, pass Colonie Center, pass Route 155, pass the old Mohawk Mall, drive until Central Avenue turns into State Street, keep on driving straight (if you’re still seeing Route 5 signs, you’re in the right direction), drive past Proctor’s, turn left when you see the Schenectady Armory (now known as Armory Studio), and you’re now at the home court of the New York Phoenix.
If you’re also wondering … the New York Phoenix will be a truly natural rival for the Patroons. There hasn’t been a natural Albany-Schenectady pro sports rival since the days of the Albany Senators and Schenectady Blue Jays minor league baseball teams in the late 1940’s. So this will be exciting.
I’ve listed the home and away schedule below. All Patroons home games will be at the Washington Avenue Armory, that castle-like structure at the intersection of Washington Avenue and Lark Street.
This will be exciting.
